2006 Elodie Kimmel soprano (France)
Elodie Kimmel began her vocal studies at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Genève studying with Gilles Cachemaille. In September 2004 she became a student on the postgraduate diploma course at the Royal College of Music studying with Kathleen Livingstone and graduated with distinction in June 2006. She won the first LBS Bach Singers Prize in 2006 with an accomplished presentation of Bach arias to an enthusiastic audience at London’s St. John’s, Smith Square. Having completed her studies Elodie has appeared in various recitals and concerts in the UK and in Glyndebourne’s staging of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion in 2007. Since returning to her native France, Elodie has moved into Opera with performances this year in Rouen and next year at Versailles.
2008 Jolanta Kowalska soprano (Poland)
Jolanta Kowalska is from Cracow, Poland and she won the 2nd LBS Bach Singers’ Prize in November 2008 with her beautifully devised and presented mixed Bach programme that included arias from Mass in B minor, Magnificat, Cantatas BWV 127 and Cantata BWV 211 (Coffee Cantata). Each finalist was also required to include a recitative and Jolanta chose hers from Cantata BWV 199. Chosen as a Polish Ministry of Culture scholar from 2004-2008, Jolanta Kowalska graduated with distinction from the Academy of Music in Cracow and, as a “Młoda Polska scholar, studied with Ameral Gunson at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She has taken part in Master Classes with Paul Esswood and Barbara Schlick and in July 2008 won the Christa Bach Foundation award at the XVI Internationaler Johann-Sebastian-Bach Wettbewerb in Leipzig. 2010 Sarah Power (soprano) Ireland
Dublin-born soprano Sarah Power graduated from the National opera Studio in 2009 and continues her studies with Susan McCulloch. Among her numerous achievements in 2010 were 2nd Prize in the Kathleen Ferrier Competition and finalist in the Handel Singing Competition promoted as part of the annual London Handel Festival. She capped the year by winning the 3rd LBS Bach Singers Prize with her stylishly presented mixed Bach programme.
