Bachfest
…Next Bachfest is October/November 2012…
Bachfest is the London Bach Society’s annual festival that takes place in the autumn around 31 October-10 November. These are two significant dates that have a clear connection with Bach, his life, influences and times.
Why are the dates significant?
31 October is the date when the foundation of the Lutheran Church is celebrated. Bach served the Lutheran Church all his life and composed his church works for it, performing them at the appropriate weekly services throughout the year. This corpus of works is the cornerstone of his output, so features prominently at Bachfest. 10th November is the date attributed to the birth of Martin Luther, who founded the Lutheran church.
What will Bachfest feature?
Steinitz Bach Players is the resident orchestra at Bachfest. Performances will feature a rich mix of top visiting guest artists to enhance your enjoyment of the composer’s inspirational treasury of music and draw you ever closer into Bach’s ‘sound world’.
Bachfest has a prevailing theme and a colourful mix of events to suit all tastes. In addition to the promotion of the composer’s core repertory in concerts and recitals, the series currently includes a biennial Bach Singers Prize (the next is in 2012), a meeting of the 18-30 Bach Club and an educational programme open to all, and this is enshrined within a Festival that has gained a reputation for its warm and friendly atmosphere.
